MAINTENANCE
If your rack is dirty, squeaking, or just been on your vehicle for a while, it’s a good idea to bust out the tools to keep your 1UP USA racks and accessories functioning like new.
Wipe down your rack a few times a year to remove any salt, road debris, or other dirt and grime. Grab a lint-free rag or microfiber towel, garden hose, pressure washer, and any general-use cleaner, and give it a good scrub. Avoid strong degreasers or citrus-based chemicals.
Over time, wear on the Glide Bar teeth is normal. They will not wear to the point of not being operational. However, if you see wear, you can swap the Glide Bar from one side to the other; that gives you a fresh set of teeth where the most wear happens.
Another tip to extend the life of the rack is to make sure the pivot point remains stiff when rotating to avoid premature wear. Use two 3/4-inch wrenches and give it a quick turn.
If the rack develops a sticky lever, grab a 3/16-inch Allen wrench and a 1/2-inch wrench and loosen the button head about a quarter turn. It should move freely.
If you notice the arms are especially squeaky when you close them, apply a dry lube or WD-40 to the pivot point and it should clear up the squeak. If you have any other questions, contact 1UP’s customer service team. They are there to help!
