Bought as a worn-out racer, this 2002 has been carefully rebuilt by Chris Wisco to handle errands, hardware hauls, and spirited drives without losing the grit of its track car past.

The article traces the 2002’s accidental birth, when two BMW engineers independently dropped bigger engines into their own 1602s, and shows how that experiment reshaped the brand.
